There’s no denying it- what we put into our bodies is absolutely critical for our overall health and wellbeing. But did you know that some of the ingredients lying around in your kitchen pantry make for amazing skincare treatments? Let’s look at a few of them now.
Stock Up on Immune-Boosting Sesame Oil
You may have heard that cooking with sesame oil is a great health alternative to some of the other options within your grocery store, but its benefits extend into countless other areas of well-being. Just check out a few of the major benefits-
- Fights arthritis and gout pain
- Reduces heart attack and stroke risk
- Increases red blood cell circulation
- Improves overall bone growth
- Combats hair loss and cleanses scalp
- Massively reduces colon cancer risk
- Whitens teeth and fights plaque
The boost in blood circulation alone makes sesame oil a great choice as a massage oil, and it also hydrates the skin while lightly exfoliating away dead cells as well. Studies have also shown that it can reduce the presence of age spots.
Smooth Away Wrinkles with White Sugar
I think we all know that sugar is horrible for our waistlines and overall health. You might not realize, however, that sugar speeds up the aging process and breaks down the collagen in our skin. A recent study also found a link between sugar and redness/puffiness under the eyes. Remove it from your diet just for a day or two to see what I mean- your eyes will look 5 years younger!
However, let’s not write off sugar completely. While you should avoid it in foods and drinks as much as possible, it also makes a fantastic exfoliant. The next time you’re in the shower, mix a small handful with your favorite cleanser and scrub your skin from head to toe. You’ll be amazed how smooth and silky your skin feels after just one treatment!
Fish Oil Turns Back Time on Aging
You’ve heard me say time and time again that healthy omega-3 fatty acids are the key to reversing damage from the sun and maintaining a healthy brain function. And you also probably know that omega-3’s can only be gained through eating fish, walnuts, soybeans, oysters and spinach. Today you have a new source to add to that list- fish oil.
Like sesame oil, fish oil also has anti-inflammatory properties and numerous health-related benefits. Where it stands out, however, is being the only nutrient around known to restore the skin’s epidermis and actually reverse the aging process. Try a daily topical treatment right after using a cleanser before bedtime…and watch those fine wrinkles on your face disappear!
I take omega-3 fish oil capsules-is there a omega-3 fish oil in a bottle?
Hi Barb, there are, but I would recommend a high quality Omega 3 supplement like this one: http://perfectorigins.com/product/detail/perfectOmega
I take this one every day and have seen big improvements in joint pain being reduced, as well as dry eyes being improved. You want to find an Omega supplement with high amounts of DHA and EPA. This one is the highest I have found. All of the ones you’ll find in local stores are too low to see much benefit.
What Omega 3 fish oil do you use on your face?
